Sisonke Gallery is inside the Cape Heritage Hotel on Bree Street, which makes it one of the few Cape Town galleries whose main audience arrives by staying upstairs. The programme is built around promoting local artists to that audience — work chosen to mean something to someone who did not come to the city to buy art and may leave having done so.
The hotel occupies a restored eighteenth-century building on Heritage Square, so the rooms the work hangs in are themselves part of the attraction. The gallery is open to the public and takes part in First Thursdays, the CBD's late-opening evening on the first Thursday of every month.
