Contemporary cocktail bar on Shortmarket Street with a terrace over the historic Heritage Square courtyard.
The Drinkery is a comfortable, contemporary cocktail bar on Shortmarket Street, and its terrace looks down into the Heritage Square courtyard — one of the oldest surviving urban spaces in Cape Town, and a rare thing to be able to drink above.
The room is unhurried in a way most CBD cocktail bars are not, which makes it a good first stop rather than a last one. Shortmarket Street between Loop and Bree carries several galleries within the same block. The Drinkery takes part in First Thursdays, the CBD's late-opening evening on the first Thursday of every month.
